JUNETEENTH 2023

June 19, 2013 was the first year Davis Diggs (formerly known as Rickie J Davis Foundation) celebrated the "holiday" known as Juneteenth. Prior to April 2013 we had never known such a day existed. It wasn't until we began volunteering in the city (Detroit) with an organization called "Juneteenth Detroit" (formerly known as The New Community), that we became aware of Juneteenth and the history attached to it.

Since then we have been celebrating Juneteenth yearly. Over the pass few years Juneteenth has grew. So much so, it is now classified as a federal holiday. However, as with many popularized holidays, the true meaning of what is being celebrated, tends to be overshadowed, by cookouts, concerts and other entertaining events.

In keeping true to the real legacy of Juneteenth, please use this day of celebration to learn a new fact about African history. Promote peace within your neighborhood, do a random act of kindness for a stranger. Find a way to strengthen the Freedom given to us, because we were denied so much, for so long.

WISHING EVERYONE A GREAT DAY! HAPPY JUNETEENTH!!
